Marketing is an endless field of exploration. For years, I’ve been invested in psychology, particularly, understanding people: factors that catch their attention, motives behind decisions, and how they respond to daily media consumption. Marketing gives me a way to explore these interests while bridging creativity and communication into the process.
Connecting people, culture, and experiences
As President for York Asian Society (YAS), I had the opportunity to construct a cultural brand representing diversity. Alongside my team, I want to create an inclusive, educational, and socially welcoming space where students can learn from one another. This has challenged me to think about how we communicate that purpose and bring it to life.
Back in February 2026, my team and I welcomed approximately 20 students to our event, where we had activities designed around Asian cultures for our York Asian Society orientation. One of our ice-breaker games included cultural bingo, with prompts about countries, food, and languages encouraged students to interact and discover information about one another.
As well, we organized a matching game where students searched for the person holding the other half of an Asian snack, drink, meal, or condiment pairing. Winners received goodie bags containing snacks from different parts of Asia.
I noticed that students were engaged during the activities and learned new things about the people they met through bingo. The winners were also excited to enjoy their snacks. Seeing these reactions helped me appreciate how our choices, from game prompts to prizes, could give students reasons to participate and connect.

Exploring my future in marketing
This experience encouraged me to think more carefully about the relationship between an audience and a brand. With YAS, our purpose becomes more meaningful when students can experience it through conversations, activities, and shared discoveries.
As I explore a career in marketing, I want to keep learning about the decisions behind those experiences. I am interested in how understanding people can guide creative choices and help communication feel relevant to its audience.
